RINSE AND REPEAT

How many of you have had this experience? You make an art piece that mixes the autobiographical with a horrendous historical bit, to hopefully purge the two pain points inside you… I’m talking about all that artwork drawing from the “never agains”.

You know that when a piece like that becomes current again, there’s a problem… MORE

EARTHING

Throwback shot by Nathalie Michel. The globe earrings and the cardboard block are from my childhood. The apple garland I got at a craft fair, and I always wore it as a necklace. Neither it nor I had foreseen a future together inside so many New York clubs. Levity, we found, was needed there, as much as anywhere.

STRIPES GONE BY

Throwback to my sitting in front of his fireplace in Florence. I didn’t know at the time that my favorite vintage zip-up dress was wearing out right along with our relationship. But I have many new dresses now, all of them bright, and a man who cares more about the me that’s inside of them. #everythingisperfect #lifeisamystery

WINDOW WATCHING

The Universal Law of Supply states that because we are always expanding, we are always wanting more. Our evolving, just as a growing seed, almost necessitates a desire to acquire. For some, that could mean a Rolex. For me, it could mean a dollhouse-sized Little Debbie cake! The law fueling and underlying both choices, it is the same. So have fun delighting in the stuff of life, because toys cannot weigh you down or define you, if a childlike wonder is brought to the sandbox of your adult life.

BANKING ON BEAUTY

Bank of America’s been called the ultimate Too Big to Fail, a hyper-gluttonous ward, and with reason. But I met my artist face-to-face at a Bank of America last night when its window caused all of reason to be drained from me. When presence with its color and line, wiped my mind. A Bank of America gave me my preferred state of being. So what does that mean? Was I played? Had my subconscious been fed the subliminal dinner this window display was designed to dole out? I don’t think so. I think my perspective, it was MORE

MUTE VINTAGE

I thought this glass lady wanted to say something to me ever since I found her, but I haven’t heard anything yet. So, I share her silence… and I’m guessing that’s her medicine.
