WOODBLOCK

One of my first shots after moving to NYC, found on a wooden barricade forming a temporary walkway in Union Square. A metaphor for me that everything may get cut, everything may bleed, but the light is there, to hold it all.

SELF-STICK SUNDAY

You know that self-adhesive wallpaper you bought 8 months ago to spruce up the bookshelves you stabilized into a wall structure to make your tiny office, the unappealing backsides of which are now your hallway? Yeah, those rolls in the costume closet! I’m #homeimprovement #committed today, and I’d roll up my sleeves if I were wearing any! 🤓 Featured: The “Time To Think” Box. #getitdone and #havefun

EARTH ASKS IF IT SHOULD JOIN MATCH

Earth told me, I’ve loved your bow ties
And what you’ve done with caviar
That Tupperware lets you work with leftovers
And tin foil, your potatoes
You’re learning, from MeToo to NeverAgain
To cut down on the abuse
And that is the next best thing
Since sliced bread

It is It is It is

But what about MORE

INTROVERT ON THE TELEPHONE

A throwback shot by Nathalie Michel… If you were able to see the end of that phone cord, you’d see it wasn’t plugged into anything! 😜

Don’t get me wrong: I’ll stay on a call for hours in support of a friend, or I’ll dial into a conference call with a venture capitalist to pitch my product – no matter the butterfly quantity inside me – but in most every case when it comes to the telephone: I pick it up when I’m prepared emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to shift my focused attention from within, to without.

Why? MORE

RETROGRADING

My heart went heavy down a well today, and then my mind dove in after it. I didn’t know wells had creatures like these, so I’m praying this is a Jonah and The Whale sort of situation! Still from my “Salty Man” box. #mercuryretrograde

AMERICAN HOT AIR

The news, and the sidewalk, they each deliver their own kind. I choose the latter’s, tonight. #perspectiveheals

CAUTION CANDY

Many traveled West in the pursuit of treasure. I go West as well, to Third Avenue.

REJECTION RICH

I’ve been on a battlefield with this one for all too long
It’s when I realize
That I’ve only been fighting myself there
Each and every time
That any sweet breeze can return

But in my MORE

NO DENIAL 2

Still from my mini art commission, “The Shana Box”. Made to encourage Shana’s self-care after losing her Mom, this work feels a match tonight in loving memory of my friend, collaborator, and filmmaker extraordinaire: Joe Nardelli

A social advocate on steroids, a man so creatively wound that he barely slept, a man who’d make a pizza and then another – and then another – for his friends, and a friend who’d trek with frozen fingers through a snowstorm in Central Park to get “the shot” for me, I’m forever inspired by Joe’s spirit. It endures within me, and within the countless others I had the heart exploding pleasure of sharing the Cornelia Street Cafe basement with on Thursday night, for a tribute in his honor.

WHAT IF DEPRESSED, WERE DEEP REST?

The non-duality perspective was introduced to me by the couples therapist I was seeing in an effort to “mend and reestablish” my previous relationship after the infidelity I’d been blind to suddenly exploded out from its tight little drawer where it’d been put away, and rendered me a deer in headlights with a damaged heart. Maybe some of you have had the experience…

Well it became clear MORE

PIPA’S MAMA

My friend Kelly just lost her Mom. In her words, “If I am ever generous or kind, it is because of the example she set for me every day of her life.”

I took this torch shot in the yard of some beloveds last month. Today it is finding its purpose.

In the words of Dawna Markova, “I will not die an unloved life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose MORE

ROCK & GROW

I was given a uniquely vibrant jolt of Generation Z’s currency last night. For any of you familiar with (one of my favorite shows of all time) Stranger Things, you’ll be familiar with one of its 15-year-old leads, Finn Wolfhard. His band, Calpurnia, has been called by Dazed, “teen rockers with old souls”. And last night, they picked for their opening act a band that old souls would, called Little Junior (featured here).

The lead singer, Rane, is gay. When they got to his song “Crooked Teeth”, he said MORE

COURAGE NEEDS A NEW SYNONYM

My Dad is falling.
My boyfriend’s Mom is dying.
Our friend just had a stroke.
I walk to meet a friend for lunch.

Every day, we’re acting in the face of uncertainty.
Picking ourselves up after falling down.
Metaphorically, until literally.
Knowing full well that one day we’ll have run out
Of our Get Out Of Jail Free cards.
And will take that final stumble
From which we will not re-stand.

And what resiliency

BORED ROOM

They say blue calms the mind. For me, it’s the opposite. I find the warmth of reds and pinks so grounding to my character. So this ring, it’s not just for garden parties; I wear it to business meetings! Costume jewelry isn’t just for the stage, or just for kids, and I refuse to tone down my celebration of the wild… because any boardroom that won’t have me, has simply forgotten the necessity of play.
